In July 2026, QPIC1550 research partner Elizaveta Semenova (DTU) delivered an invited talk at the PIERS conference in Suzhou, China, presenting recent advances in integrated quantum photonics at telecom wavelengths. Her talk highlighted the integration of telecom-band semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) onto photonic circuits—a key milestone toward building compact, scalable, on-chip quantum architectures compatible with existing fiber-optic infrastructure.
The presentation centered on deterministic fabrication approaches that allow precise positioning and reproducible performance of quantum emitters within complex photonic environments. Prof. Semenova detailed how extreme dielectric confinement can be exploited to enhance emission efficiency, engineer radiative and non-radiative processes, and drastically reduce overall device footprints. She also addressed critical surface passivation strategies necessary to mitigate surface effects as device dimensions shrink, ensuring optimal optical performance and device stability.
By addressing these core challenges, the research presented directly contributes to QPIC1550’s mission to develop scalable, high-performance integrated photonic technologies operating in the 1550 nm telecom band.
