QPIC1550 partner University of West Attica (UWA) has announced the establishment of a new spin-off SME, Qognilum, founded by members of the Research Unit on Neuromorphic Computing and Photonics (RNCP).

The new venture aims to bridge university research and industrial commercialization by advancing photonic sensing technologies and developing quantum-integrated photonic Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs). These developments closely align with UWA’s contributions to the QPIC1550 project, where the university leads activities focused on quantum clock synchronization, photonic sensing, and evaluating quantum photonic integrated circuits for hardware security and authentication.

The launch of Qognilum highlights the strong potential for uptake and real-world impact of the technologies emerging from the QPIC1550 consortium. By taking cutting-edge photonic platforms from university laboratories into the market, the spin-off helps accelerate the adoption of secure quantum photonic solutions across telecommunications and sensing infrastructure.
